Apple announced Tuesday that it is expanding iBooks Textbooks and iTunes U Course Manager — two of its educational services — into new countries as part of a continued push to dominate the global education market.
iBooks Textbooks, which offers interactive digital textbooks, is now available in 51 countries including Brazil and Japan. iTunes U Course Manager, an online tool that lets teachers create downloadable courses for students, is now available in 70 countries including Russia and Thailand.
We can’t wait to see how teachers in even more countries will create their new lesson plans with interactive textbooks, apps and rich digital content," Eddy Cue, Apple's SVP of Internet Software and Services, said in a statement.
Apple's top executives have repeatedly touted the company's success in the education market. During the company's most recent earnings call in October, CEO Tim Cook noted that the iPad had 94% of the education market for tablets.
