Save Water |
In honor of this year’s World Water Day, a number of organizations are working on forward-looking clean-water initiatives.
These initiatives are helping protect our planet's water supply in a variety of ways, from providing water-filtration systems to inventing dynamic clean-water technology.
If you're interested in helping to ensure that clean water will exist for generations to come, you can start by supporting one or all of the following five organizations working to provide clean water for everyone, everywhere.
One of the most well-known and recognizable charities around the world, Charity: Water brings clean and safe drinking water to developing nations. The company offers a variety of ways to get involved including direct donations, volunteering and organizing events for friends and family.
Similar to Charity: Water, WaterisLife brings clean water solutions to schools and villages in the developing world. One of its most innovative strategies includes The Straw, a portable straw that filtrates water from any source, increasing the ways in which people can access clean water.
Co-founded by Matt Damon, Water.org not only delivers clean water solutions to the developing world, but the organization also works to ensure that the project is process-driven by local partners and the community. The organization also created a WaterCredit program that provides small loans to those who need clean water, reducing the need for subsidies.
Support one organization with two causes: water and HIV/AIDS. Blood: Water Mission supports organizations in Africa that are working to solve the dual crisis of water and HIV/AIDS on the continent. The company partners with local organizations and individuals in an effort to see that both of these issues are addressed in our lifetime.
Clean water is needed by everyone and everything, including the natural environment. The National Wildlife Federation works to protect wetlands, streams, floodplains and more by working on key legislation like the Clean Water Act. The organization also works on various projects that improve water systems and engages state and local agencies to help plan new water guidelines.
Soma, a company that produces a sustainable water-filtration system, already supports its partner, Charity: Water, with every product it sells. But in honor of World Water Day, Soma will donate an additional $5 to the non-profit for every purchase made of its carafe.
